CAN Rebukes Peter Obi Supporter Over Jesus Christ Campaign Reference

The Christian Association of Nigeria has publicly criticized Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, for bringing Jesus Christ into political discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential elections and Peter Obi's political future. CAN, represented by its president Archbishop Daniel Okoh, issued a formal statement on Wednesday declaring that Christ's name should remain outside Nigeria's partisan political contests.

In his statement, Okoh acknowledged that political debate in Nigeria often carries intensity and passion. However, he insisted that believers must exercise restraint when making religious references during campaign discussions.

The rebuke came directly after Mama Pee made remarks that drew comparisons involving Jesus Christ while discussing Obi and the upcoming election cycle. Okoh stated clearly that Jesus should not become a tool for political advantage or used to promote the interests of any candidate or political party.

The CAN president's warning extended beyond Mama Pee to all politicians and their supporters who may be tempted to weaponize religious figures or concepts in their electoral campaigns ahead of 2027. The intervention marks an attempt by Nigeria's foremost Christian body to establish boundaries around religious discourse in the political sphere as the nation enters the pre-election season.
