CAN Rebukes Mama Pee for Invoking Jesus in Politics

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, issued a statement rebuking Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, for drawing comparisons involving Jesus Christ in the context of the 2027 election debate. CAN asserted that the name of Christ should not be used as a tool in Nigeria's political battles, regardless of the political affiliations involved.

This statement followed remarks made by Mama Pee concerning former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. CAN clarified that their intention was not to suppress political opinions but to caution against the spiritual framing of electoral outcomes.

The association specifically mentioned that Nigerians have the right to support or oppose political figures, including Peter Obi and Bola Tinubu. Archbishop Okoh urged politicians and citizens to engage in political discourse with greater care and restraint, highlighting the need for a respectful approach to political discussions as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
