Canada Unveils NEXUS Eligibility for Faster Border Clearance

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced the eligibility criteria for the NEXUS program, which allows for expedited border clearance across land, sea, and air entry points between Canada and the United States. The five categories of individuals eligible to apply for NEXUS membership include: United States citizens, Canadian citizens, United States permanent residents, Canadian permanent residents, and Mexican nationals who are members of the Viajero Confiable program.

Permanent residents must have been legally residing in Canada or the U.S. for at least three years, with a requirement of being physically present for at least 183 days each year during that period. However, certain individuals, such as those serving in the American armed forces abroad and their family members, are exempt from this three-year rule.

The NEXUS program aims to expedite processing for pre-approved, low-risk travelers, thereby reducing wait times at major entry points.
