Canada Lists 14 Communities for Skilled Worker Immigration

The Canadian government has released a list of 14 rural communities eligible for skilled workers to apply for permanent residence in 2026 through the Rural and Francophone Immigration Pilot programme. Eligible workers must confirm their qualifications, secure a job offer from an employer within the designated communities, and can apply under the pilot.

The communities include Pictou County, NS; North Bay and Area, ON; Sudbury, ON; Timmins, ON; Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Thunder Bay, ON; Steinbach, MB; Altona/Rhineland, MB; Brandon, MB; Moose Jaw, SK; Claresholm, AB; West Kootenay, BC; North Okanagan Shuswap, BC; and Peace Liard, BC.

Each community has defined boundary maps for applicants. The programme aims to address labor shortages in smaller communities.

Notably, applicants can obtain a work permit to start working in Canada while their permanent residence application is under review, which is significant for Nigerian and other African applicants considering immigration.
