Shooting at U.S. Consulate in Toronto Sparks Investigation

Early Monday morning, a shooting took place outside the U.S. Consulate in downtown Toronto, marking the second such incident this year.

Toronto Police Service reported that an officer heard a gunshot at approximately 4:46 a.m. local time. Upon investigation, a spent shell casing and damage to the building's façade were found, but no injuries were reported among the two security personnel inside the consulate.

A white late-model Honda Accord without license plates was seen fleeing the scene, prompting a high-speed pursuit that was later abandoned due to safety concerns. The suspect remains at large, and authorities are seeking witnesses and surveillance footage.

Deputy Police Chief Frank Barredo stated that the investigation is a top priority, while Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the shooting as a "brazen" act of violence. This incident follows a previous attack on the consulate on March 10, which was treated as a national security investigation.
