CBN Urges Nigerians to Respect Naira: Fresh Warning Against Hoarding and Abuse

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a fresh warning against hoarding and abusing the Naira, as the demand for cash is expected to rise during the holiday season. The CBN launched a nationwide campaign on proper banknote handling to reduce abuse and discourage hoarding, emphasizing the importance of respecting the currency.

Deputy Governor Bala Bello urged Nigerians to stop practices like spraying, folding, tearing, writing, or rejecting currency notes to promote Naira pride and care. The campaign aims to extend the life of banknotes and ensure enough cash circulation to meet genuine needs across the country, as hoarding poses risks during peak demand periods.
