Military Gains Against Terrorism Attributed to Collaboration

General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), attributed the recent operational successes of the Armed Forces of Nigeria against terrorists and extremist groups to effective collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services. He commended the troops for their efforts in neutralizing terrorists, rescuing abducted citizens, and dismantling criminal networks.

During a television interview, Oluyede noted a reduction in terrorist attacks, which have shifted towards kidnappings. The Armed Forces sustained kinetic operations from August 31 to September 3, 2026, achieving several successes in combating terrorism and kidnapping.

Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, reported the apprehension of seven spies and the surrender of numerous extremists and their families. Notable incidents included the interception of escapees from terrorist captivity and the arrest of individuals supplying food to terrorist enclaves in Borno State.
