Concerns Raised Over Irregular Appointments at FCE Odugbo

The Center has expressed serious concerns regarding the appointment process of key positions, including the provost, registrar, and bursar at the Federal College of Education Odugbo in Benue State. Comrade Danielson Akpan, the Executive Director of the Center, highlighted that the process violated established rules governing appointments in federal colleges of education.

The Federal Ministry of Education acknowledged that the exercise contravened the conditions of service for colleges of education. Appointments were made despite a prior directive from the Ministry to suspend the exercise and re-advertise the positions, indicating a disregard for due process.

This situation undermines the integrity of the tertiary education system and erodes public confidence in its administration. The Center linked this incident to a broader pattern of arbitrary administration in tertiary institutions and called on the Minister of Education to cancel the irregular appointments and compel the governing council to adhere to established regulations.

Akpan emphasized that the credibility and stability of tertiary institutions depend on strict adherence to due process in leadership appointments.
