Thugs Disrupt ADC Women’s Forum Meeting in Rivers State

A meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Women’s Forum was disrupted by suspected thugs in Alesa, Elem Local Government Area, Rivers State. The group was convening to inaugurate the forum when assailants stormed the venue, dispersing attendees and destroying items, including a canopy and loudspeakers.

Eyewitnesses reported that the intruders claimed the organizers had failed to obtain prior approval for the gathering, which is required for political activities in the area according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Despite attempts by the organizers to clarify the purpose of the meeting, the event was abruptly shut down.

Atosemi Oma Uwam, the national coordinator of the forum, condemned the attack, describing it as an effort to suppress political participation and stifle opposition voices. Uwam emphasized that the gathering was solely for the inauguration of the forum and not for campaign purposes, aiming to enhance the involvement of young women in politics and improve representation within the party structure.
