Thugs Disrupt ADC Young Women Forum Meeting in Rivers

On Friday, thugs disrupted the inaugural meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Young Women Forum in Elem Local Government Area, Rivers State. The disruption occurred at the venue in Alesa, where the group intended to gather support and promote gender balance within the party.

The thugs, allegedly led by a ward councillor whose name was withheld, claimed that the ADC did not obtain prior approval for the event. Ms.

Atosemi Oma Uwam, the National Coordinator of the ADC Young Women Forum, condemned the incident, describing it as an attempt to suppress democratic engagement by opposition parties ahead of the elections. She clarified that the gathering was not a political campaign but rather a community event aimed at encouraging young women to participate in politics and contest for positions.

Uwam emphasized that the group is not a feminist movement but seeks to empower women within the political landscape.
