Activist VDM Challenges Police Over Insecurity Claims

On Thursday, social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, stated that he would not hand over evidence to the Nigeria Police Force regarding his allegations that some security personnel are aiding kidnappers and bandits. Otse expressed his willingness to respond to the police's invitation but insisted that he would only disclose his evidence in court.

The police had requested evidence supporting his claims that officers at checkpoints identify wealthy travelers and relay their information to kidnappers. The police described these allegations as serious and unsubstantiated, warning that they could damage public confidence in the police.

Otse rejected the request, questioning why he should provide evidence that could be used against him in a criminal case. He maintained that elements within the police and other security agencies contribute to the ongoing insecurity in Nigeria.

Despite his criticisms, Otse acknowledged the challenging conditions under which many police officers operate.
