Chelsea's Discipline Issues Cost European Qualification

Chelsea FC's interim manager Calum McFarlane admitted that the team's dismal disciplinary record was a key reason for their failure to qualify for European competitions. Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League after a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland, which ended their faint hopes of securing a European berth for the next season.

This match marked McFarlane's second spell as interim manager. During the game, French defender Wesley Fofana was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Wilson Isidor in the 61st minute, marking Chelsea's eighth red card of the Premier League season.

McFarlane acknowledged that the team's red card issue has been a significant problem throughout a turbulent campaign. He emphasized the need for improvement in this area for the next season, noting that other teams, like Arsenal, have managed to win the league without such disciplinary issues.

Chelsea's season also included a loss in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
