Lagos Industrial Fire Caused by Chemical Materials, LASEMA Reports

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed that a fire at Parco Enterprises Nigeria Limited along the Alaba Suru Badagry Expressway in Lagos was caused by chemical materials stored at the industrial facility. The fire, which occurred on a Saturday evening, rapidly spread across an estimated 15,000 square meters of the facility, involving the storage of chemical blends.

The intense blaze led to intermittent explosions and posed a significant threat to adjacent facilities and residents in the surrounding community. The firefighting efforts involved multiple agencies, including LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, and private fire assets.

The response teams worked to contain the fire and prevent re-ignition, with support from companies like Lacasera providing water to sustain the firefighting operations. Preliminary investigations identified several risk factors contributing to the scale and intensity of the fire, including high volumes of volatile chemicals stored in confined spaces and inadequate emergency preparedness measures.
