Ogun Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Child Trafficking

Chukwuemeka Iheamama, a 27-year-old man, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for trafficking two minors, identified as Bright Edim and Mari Ekong, both aged 15. The court found him guilty on three counts of child trafficking, violating the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015.

Iheamama received a two-year prison sentence and a fine of N250,000 for the first count, a five-year sentence and a N500,000 fine for the second count, and another five-year sentence for the third count, with all sentences running concurrently. His arrest occurred on April 12, 2025, when officers from the Nigerian Police Force apprehended him in the Agbara area while transporting the victims towards Badagry for onward movement to Ghana for prostitution.

The case was subsequently handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution. The trial commenced on October 15, 2025, with judgment delivered on May 20, 2026.
