Electrician Sentenced to 12 Years for Raping Minor

Samuel John, a 36-year-old electrician, was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for raping a 9-year-old girl, whose name has been withheld, in Lagos. The sentencing took place at the Lagos State Judiciary in Ikeja, with Justice Abiola Soladoye presiding over the case.

The incident occurred when the victim's brother left her alone in their home while he went to buy fuel. Upon his return, he discovered that the door was locked and found Samuel John inside with the victim.

The convict had sexually assaulted the girl by removing her underwear and penetrating her vagina without consent. Initially, the victim did not inform her mother about the assault but later confided in her brother, who then informed their mother.

Samuel John was first arraigned on November 9, 2022, and initially pleaded not guilty but later entered a plea bargain agreement. The charges against him included unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
