Students Faint After Bouncer Uses Pepper Spray in Edo

On Children’s Day, an incident occurred at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State, where students fainted after a bouncer employed pepper spray to manage unruly behavior. The chaos began when a male student allegedly made inappropriate advances toward a female student, prompting intervention from a private security personnel.

As the situation escalated, the bouncer used pepper spray, affecting several students, particularly females, who reported fainting due to inhalation of the substance. Parents identified one affected student, Oboh Emmanuel, whose behavior attracted the attention of security personnel.

Following the incident, two students were taken to Edo Specialist Hospital for treatment and were later discharged the same night, with medical personnel confirming their conditions were not serious. Patrick Ebojel, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, confirmed the use of pepper spray by security personnel and stated that the incident was not exaggerated, emphasizing measures were in place to ensure children's enjoyment of the day.
