Chemical Odor at Ogun School Sends Students to Hospital

On June 3, 2026, a chemical odor at Ladi Apostl Secondary School in Ijebu Ode resulted in the hospitalization of thirty students and two teachers at the State General Hospital. This incident is the third of its kind in the area within three months, with previous occurrences affecting 100 students and teachers at Anglican Girl Grammar School Obalende and other local schools.

Ogun State's Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, stated that necessary actions are being taken, including the deployment of air quality monitoring devices by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (Ogepa) to detect abnormal air quality conditions. A multi-agency team will assess the environmental and public health risks associated with the gas leakages to prevent future occurrences.
