China Transfers ECOWAS Headquarters to Boost Ties

China has formally handed over the ECOWAS headquarters to enhance diplomatic relations and regional integration. The ceremony was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, who noted that the building symbolizes a modern partnership and the enduring relationship between China and West Africa.

He highlighted that since the establishment of formal ties in 1990, China and ECOWAS have cultivated a relationship based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation. This partnership has expanded across multiple sectors, strengthening political trust and collaboration.

Ambassador Yu emphasized that the recent policy announcements from China regarding peace and security are crucial for sustainable development in the region. He reiterated that peace and stability are vital for development, and China remains committed to supporting ECOWAS in strengthening regional security mechanisms.

The handover of the headquarters is seen as a significant milestone in the evolving relationship between China and ECOWAS, which is expected to foster greater growth and integration in West Africa.
