ECOWAS Unveils New Headquarters in Abuja, Strengthening Ties

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) inaugurated its new headquarters in Abuja, marking a significant milestone in the region's integration journey. The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, and ECOWAS Commission President Omar Alieu Touray.

Ojukwu emphasized the importance of unity among member states in addressing security pressures and political transitions. China's Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, described the headquarters as a flagship aid project, aligning with broader continental initiatives alongside the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa.

He highlighted the architectural significance and the project's role in enhancing ECOWAS's operational capacity. The headquarters represents not only infrastructural development but also a commitment to regional governance and cooperation amid political uncertainties in West Africa.

The formal commissioning of the building is expected later in the year, reinforcing Abuja's role as a diplomatic hub.
