China Delivers New ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja

On Tuesday, China formally handed over the newly constructed ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the bloc's 50-year history. The project, which cost approximately $56-57 million and was completed within a two-year timeline, was described by ECOWAS Commission President Omar Alieu Touray as a defining moment for regional cooperation.

The complex features a central administrative tower, two wings, an 800-seat conference room, and various support facilities, including a clinic and gym. The formal inauguration is expected to take place later this year, led by Chairman Julius Maada Bio and Nigeria's President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Touray expressed gratitude towards the Chinese government for their support, highlighting the importance of the headquarters in strengthening policy coordination among member states. The project, which began construction in December 2022, is seen as a symbol of the shared aspirations of the region and a testament to China's long-standing engagement with Africa.
