ECOWAS and Energy China Partner to Boost Power Infrastructure

ECOWAS and Energy China have initiated discussions to form a partnership aimed at strengthening West Africa's power infrastructure. The meeting took place in Abuja, Nigeria, where ECOWAS Energy and Mines Director William Baido met with representatives from the China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC).

The discussions focused on expanding electricity access and enhancing the reliability of power systems across the region. Key topics included reviewing the project portfolio of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and identifying potential financing channels to accelerate growth in the power sector.

Baido provided an overview of ongoing programs to improve energy access, including initiatives to expand electricity distribution networks and develop energy storage systems. CEEC's General Manager Huang Aijun emphasized the company's expertise in renewable energy and its commitment to supporting ECOWAS's priority projects.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain close engagement to assess project development status and explore concrete areas for collaboration.
