CPI Commends Army Chief for Transforming Military Relations

The Centre for Public Integrity (CPI), a pro-democracy civil rights organization, praised Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), for a significant transformation in the Nigerian Army's operational conduct and military-civil relations. In a statement released on Sunday, Dr John Samuel Nang, the group's convener, noted that under Lt. Gen. Shaibu's leadership, the Army has demonstrated unprecedented professionalism, particularly in combating Boko Haram, ISWAP, and armed bandits in Northern Nigeria.

The Army's proactive measures have led to a reduction in kidnappings and ambushes, allowing displaced communities to return home. Dr Nang emphasized the positive change in civil-military relations, highlighting the Army's adherence to human rights and community outreach initiatives.

He also noted the Army's collaboration with other security agencies, which has improved intelligence gathering and response times, marking a shift from inter-agency rivalry to strategic synergy. This transformation has fostered trust between rural communities and the military.
