Civil Society Coalition Demands ICPC Action on APC Candidate

A coalition of civil society organizations has called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to resist pressure from influential individuals regarding the investigation into allegations of forgery against Engr. Toyin Okoro Zacchaeus, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ekiti South Federal Constituency. At a press conference in Abuja, the coalition's convener, Victor Kalu, stated that Zacchaeus had been interrogated by the ICPC over allegations of conflict of interest and abuse of public office.

These allegations stem from his activities prior to becoming the APC candidate, particularly during his time as Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. Kalu claimed that Zacchaeus did not resign from his position as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of a private company that allegedly secured government contracts while he was receiving salaries from the National Assembly.

The coalition urged the ICPC to uphold its commitment to anti-corruption and ensure that anyone found guilty is prosecuted.
