Civil Society Backs CDS Oluyede's Military Strategy

Civil society organizations, represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Mahmood Sani of the Northern Peace and Security Account Network (NPSAN), have commended General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff, for his firm and uncompromising stance on military operations against banditry in Nigeria's North-West. During a press conference in Kano on Wednesday, Sani emphasized the need for sustained military action to restore public confidence and rebuild livelihoods in areas affected by repeated attacks and kidnappings, particularly in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna.

He noted that Oluyede's recent visit to the theatre command in Gusau, Zamfara, demonstrated his commitment to frontline realities rather than distant command. The coalition highlighted the importance of maintaining troop welfare and discipline to ensure effective operations.

They also called for enhanced cooperation among security agencies and local communities to dismantle bandit networks and protect civilians, stressing that military operations must prioritize human rights and community trust.
