Lagos Aviat Lion Club Supports Children with Cancer

The Lagos Aviat Lion Club, led by president Theresa Emordi, has made a significant contribution to children battling cancer at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) by donating medical supplies and providing financial assistance. This announcement was made on Tuesday during the club's childhood cancer awareness campaign at LASUTH, which focused on the theme of early detection.

Emordi stated that the club's mission includes supporting children and their families at the hospital's cancer center. The club's consult unit head visited to identify children requiring urgent surgical attention, and they funded treatment for three children.

Emordi highlighted that childhood cancer is among eight global causes supported by Lion Club International. The club's project director, Christianah Off, emphasized the need for raising awareness as many Nigerians remain unaware of childhood cancer and its early signs.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 400,000 children and adolescents aged 0-19 develop cancer annually, with survival rates varying significantly between high-income and low/middle-income countries.
