Nigerian Army Strengthens Partnership with UN OCHA

During a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja, Lieutenant General Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Nigerian Army, reaffirmed the Army's commitment to humanitarian access and collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA). The meeting with Miss Danielle Parry, the Head of Office of UN OCHA in Nigeria, emphasized the importance of securing humanitarian aid corridors and supporting the resettlement of conflict-affected communities in North-East Nigeria.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, stated that the Nigerian Army would continue to provide security for humanitarian workers and supplies, particularly in Borno State. Lieutenant General Shaibu directed the Theatre Commander to enhance security along vulnerable supply routes and called for improved convoy protection.

Miss Parry acknowledged the Army's support despite global funding constraints and highlighted the need for military assistance in clearing explosive devices and enhancing patrols to facilitate humanitarian access.
