Nigerian Army Reaffirms Support for Humanitarian Access

On Friday, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, reaffirmed the Army's commitment to supporting humanitarian operations in conflict-affected areas during a courtesy visit from Miss Danielle Parry, Head of Office for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) in Nigeria, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja. He stressed that safe and unhindered humanitarian access is essential for peace and stability in the North East.

General Shaibu highlighted the Army's strategy, which includes protecting civilians and facilitating the return of displaced persons. He acknowledged the challenges in decongesting Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Borno State and assured continued Army support for humanitarian personnel and supplies.

He directed the Theatre Commander to enhance security along vulnerable supply routes and encouraged UN-OCHA to optimize resources amid declining international funding, noting that nearly six million people in the region still require humanitarian assistance.
