Misinformation Threatens National Security, Warns COAS

On Tuesday, Lt. Gen.

Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, addressed the growing threat of misinformation as a serious national security challenge during the opening of a media workshop in Abuja. He stressed the necessity for enhanced cooperation between military and media organizations to counter hostile propaganda that undermines public trust and confidence.

Shaibu noted that contemporary adversaries heavily rely on misinformation and psychological operations, which can directly threaten national security if left unchecked. He highlighted the importance of accurate information dissemination to bolster public support for security efforts and troop morale.

The workshop, themed around current security challenges, served as a platform for exchanging ideas and developing strategies to tackle misinformation and psychological warfare. Shaibu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's commitment to protecting the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also commending President Bola Tinubu for his continued support and strategic guidance.
