Colleagues Celebrate Professor Shittu's 70th Birthday

A valedictory symposium was held to celebrate Professor Olayiwola Babatunde Shittu, known as “OBS,” on his 70th birthday, attended by colleagues, mentees, and former residents. The event recognized his significant contributions to surgical practice, academia, and mentorship.

Prof. Temidayo Ogundiran, Provost of the College of Medicine, and Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Vice-Chancellor representative, praised Shittu's career at the University College Hospital for its outstanding clinical service and contributions to postgraduate medical education. They highlighted his research in prostate diseases, reconstructive urology, and infertility, noting his numerous publications and funded collaborations.

Professor Jesse Otegbayo, Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, represented by Prof. Bukola Adesina, emphasized Shittu's commitment to professionalism and quality patient care. He suggested that retirement should mark a new phase for Shittu to continue contributing to healthcare and medical education.

Prof. Ademola Popoola described Shittu as a mentor whose influence shaped many medical careers.
