Nigeria to Host 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championship

The Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFF) has awarded Nigeria the rights to host the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championship, making it the first African nation to do so. Marie-France Dufour, President of the CFF, stated that Nigeria's bid was selected due to its strong assurance of meeting required standards and the country's historical success in hosting events.

The CFF conducted a thorough review process, which included technical site visits and virtual meetings, to ensure Nigeria's preparedness. The championship is scheduled to take place in Lagos in August 2026, with participation expected from 16 nations, including Australia, India, and South Africa.

The event will also feature a U23 category and wheelchair fencing. The CFF will provide technical expertise and oversight to guarantee the event's success, enhancing Nigeria's capacity for future international bids.
