Nigeria's Riluwan Idris Wins Gold in Para Powerlifting

Riluwan Idris won Nigeria's third gold medal in the para powerlifting events at the Commonwealth Games by finishing first in the men's heavyweight category. He lifted 200kg on his first attempt and improved to 208kg, outperforming England's Matthew Harding, who won silver, and Malaysia's Nicodemus Manggoi Moses, who took bronze, both of whom failed to lift beyond 200kg.

Idris, aged 23, did not set a Games record on his third lift while attempting to break the 121kg record. This gold medal is part of Nigeria's total of six medals in the Games, all achieved in para powerlifting, surpassing the two gold medals and five total medals won at Birmingham 2022.

In boxing, Nigerian boxers Abdulramon Abdulwahab and Ayomide Hassan FOly faced defeats in their bouts against Uganda's Nuhu Batte and Lesotho's Refiloe Thai, respectively. Nigeria also had mixed results in 3×3 basketball, winning against the Cayman Islands but losing to Australia and New Zealand.
