Ella Onojuvwevwo Wins Bronze in 400m at Commonwealth Games

Ella Onojuvwevwo secured a bronze medal in the women's 400 metres at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland, finishing with a time of 51.00 seconds. The 21-year-old athlete narrowly missed the silver medal, which was claimed by Sada Williams of Barbados, who finished in 50.99 seconds.

Jamaica's Dejanea Oakley won the gold medal with a championship-winning time of 50.21 seconds. Onojuvwevwo demonstrated remarkable composure throughout the race, holding off a late challenge from Charlotte Henrich of Wales, who finished fourth in 51.16 seconds.

This bronze medal adds to Team Nigeria's impressive performance at the Games, which also saw Samuel Ogazi win gold in the men's 400 metres. Earlier in the championship, Nathaniel Ezekiel captured gold in the men's 400 metres hurdles, showcasing Nigeria's growing dominance in quarter-mile events.

Onojuvwevwo's performance follows her earlier achievements this year, including a personal best and Nigerian record of 49.47 seconds.
