NSC Grants N200M to 26 Athletes for Commonwealth Games

The Nigerian Sports Commission (NSC) has awarded N200 million in training grants to 26 athletes as a significant boost ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This initiative, managed by the NSC's Elit Podium Board, aims to support both foreign-based and home-based athletes in covering training preparation expenses across various sports, including athletics, wrestling, weightlifting, taekwondo, powerlifting, para-table tennis, and para-badminton.

Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, highlighted the government's commitment to sports under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has increased the sports budget. The selection process for the grants was led by Yusuf Ali and focused on athlete welfare, which remains a priority for the NSC.

This disbursement marks the second round of athlete grants within six months, demonstrating the NSC's ongoing commitment to supporting Nigeria's elite athletes in major international competitions.
