Nigeria Customs Service Backs Athlete Training Grants

The Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller General Bashir Adekola Adeniyi, has expressed its support for the Nigeria Sports Commission's athlete training grant program. This initiative is designed to bolster the preparation of elite athletes ahead of major international competitions, particularly the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Recently, 26 elite athletes from various sports received training grants totaling millions of naira. The program aims to improve athletes' access to quality coaching, enhance nutrition, and provide modern training equipment and exposure to competitive events.

The support from the Customs Service comes at a crucial time as athletes enter the final stretch of their preparations for global competitions. The grants are expected to alleviate financial pressures that often hinder optimal performance, allowing beneficiaries to focus on training.

Additionally, Adeniyi, who serves as the president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, emphasized the importance of grassroots development and athlete welfare in promoting Nigerian sports.
