Lagos Flooding Sparks Outrage Over Government Inaction

Heavy rainfall over the weekend in Lagos triggered widespread flooding, submerging major roads such as Gbagada, Iyana Ipaja, Ikorodu Road, and others, disrupting commercial activities and stranding motorists. Residents reported homes being underwater and faced significant challenges in transportation, with many forced to trek long distances.

Videos circulated on social media showing the extent of the flooding, with some residents lamenting the impact on their lives, including a woman who claimed to pay 10 million naira in annual rent while surrounded by floodwaters. Nollywood actress Cossi Orjiakor shared her experience battling mosquitoes due to the flooding.

Former presidential aide Demola Olarewaju attributed the flooding to years of land reclamation and urban development, which he claimed worsened the situation. Criticism was directed at the Lagos State Government for its failure to improve flood management despite previous experiences with flooding.

Residents called for better infrastructure and waste management to prevent future disasters.
