This practice was observed by Prof. Remi Sonaiya, a former presidential candidate, who expressed alarm after witnessing individuals lying on the tracks while trains approached.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) officials have described the situation as lawless, triggering widespread reactions on social media. Users noted that not all individuals sleeping on the tracks are homeless; some are laborers seeking survival.

The issue reflects deeper societal problems, including poverty and drug addiction, with calls for personal accountability rather than blaming the government. The situation is compounded by reports of vandalism along the rail corridor, with NRC spokesman Callistus Unyimadu not responding to inquiries about the matter.
