Lagos CJ Halts Ikeja Land Dispute Hearing, Causes Confusion

The Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Kazeem Alogba, has withdrawn a case file concerning a land dispute in Ikeja, causing significant confusion among the parties involved. The case, which has been pending since 2020, involves claimants Mr.

Abiodun Ariori and Chief Michael Mojisola Cole's family against the company Nasco. Justice Akin Savag, presiding over the case, announced the withdrawal without providing an explanation, leading to uncertainty regarding when the suit will resume.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Anthony Georg Ikoli, sought clarification from the court, emphasizing the lack of communication regarding the withdrawal and the indefinite suspension of proceedings. The case pertains to land disputes dating back to 1978, with allegations of enforcement of a 1997 consent judgment by armed policemen.

The withdrawal has left the matter in limbo, with no timeline provided for when it may be reassigned or heard again.
