Court Halts Lagos State Demolitions in Ojo Communities

On April 15, 2026, Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court in Lagos granted an interim restraining order against the Lagos State government and several of its agencies, including the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the Lagos State Ministry of Transport. This order prevents them from carrying out demolition and eviction exercises in the Ojo Local Government Area.

The order was issued in response to an ex parte application filed on behalf of 55 residents and two church estates, who described a persistent threat of demolition and eviction linked to proposed government projects. The residents have lived in the area for five decades without dispute until recent developments triggered fears of displacement.

The court also permitted the applicants to serve legal processes, including the original summons, and adjourned further proceedings to April 15, 2026.
