Confusion Over Fate of Nigerian Coup Plotters Persists

The situation regarding the alleged coup plotters in Nigeria remains unclear as the Federal Government has failed to issue further instructions on how to handle the case. Sources indicate that the government has not decided whether to arraign the suspects in a court martial or a regular court.

Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, previously stated that the suspects were arraigned before a relevant military judicial panel to face trial under the Armed Forces Act. However, no action has been taken thus far, leading to indecision among top military officials regarding the prosecution of the suspects.

Some officials, speaking anonymously, expressed that public leadership prefers a court martial for the indictment of the officers, while the Defence Headquarters is aware of the ongoing investigation. The Attorney General's office has yet to decide on the court proceedings for the coup plotters, contributing to the confusion surrounding the arraignment process.
