PDP Plateau State Elects New Chairman Amid Controversy

On Tuesday, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State elected Peter Tongshep as the new state chairman during a congress described as peaceful and consensual. The election took place under tight security, supervised by a seven-member delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prominent figures aligned with Nyesom Wike attended the event, including former ministers Damishi Sango and Musa Azi. However, the current leadership of the Plateau State chapter of the PDP, led by Hon.

Raymond Dabo, dismissed the election as baseless and a fabrication by mischief-makers. They stated that the current executive committee, elected on October 25, 2025, would serve until 2028, and there was no intention to conduct a fresh state congress.

The party emphasized its readiness to participate in the 2026 local government elections and the 2027 general polls, urging members to focus on reconciliation within the party amid ongoing rivalries.
