Plateau PDP Suspends Wike-Backed Chairman Peter Tongshep

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has suspended Peter Tongshep, the newly elected chairman of a faction aligned with Minister Nyesom Wike, for one month. Tongshep was elected on Tuesday alongside 38 executive members until an emergency PDP chairman is appointed for the Mikang Local Government Area.

The suspension was announced by Raymond Dabo, the state party leader, and is effective immediately. It was communicated through a statement signed by Choji Felix Dalyop, the state public secretary.

The party invoked Section 57(1) of the 2017 amended constitution of the PDP, citing Tongshep's conduct as falling under Section 58(1)(j). During the suspension period, Tongshep is barred from performing any functions as the vice chairman of the southern zone of the PDP in Plateau State.

The matter has been referred to the party's disciplinary committee for further investigation.
