Controversy Erupts Over Buni's N300m JIBWIS Donation

During a JIBWIS seminar in Jos, Plateau State, on Sunday, Governor Mai Mala Buni was involved in a controversy surrounding a N300 million pledge made by the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Kabiru Masari. Masari announced a personal donation of N300 million and another N300 million pledge on behalf of Buni.

This announcement led to significant backlash on social media, with residents and activists questioning the appropriateness of committing such funds to a religious institution while education and healthcare in Yobe State face challenges. The Yobe State Government, through Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, clarified that the pledge was a personal donation by Buni and not made on behalf of the state government.

Mohammed emphasized that Masari could not make pledges for the Yobe State Government, labeling any claims to the contrary as misleading. Critics, including a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Yobe, expressed concerns about the use of public funds for the donation, highlighting urgent healthcare issues in the state.
