Yobe State Approves ASUU Allowances, Payments Start 2026

The Yobe State government, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, has approved the payment of outstanding allowances to academic staff at state-owned universities, in line with the 2025 Federal Government Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) agreement. This approval covers consolidated academic tool allowances and arrears, with payments set to begin in August 2026.

The decision follows a report from a state fact-finding committee that reviewed the welfare and remuneration of academic staff, which included visits to institutions such as Bauchi State University and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology. Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving staff welfare and promoting industrial harmony within the higher education sector.

The committee's chairman, Professor Muhammad Bello Kawuwa, and ASUU Yobe State University branch chairman, Muhammad Adam, expressed gratitude for the approval, emphasizing its significance in enhancing the welfare of lecturers and the development of higher education in the state.
