Buni's N300M University Donation Not from State Funds

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni announced a personal pledge of N300 million towards the construction of Fortune University during a symposium organized by the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) in Jos, Plateau State. The Governor's Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, emphasized that this donation does not involve state funds, clarifying that both Buni's and Kabiru Masari's N300 million contributions were personal.

Reports suggesting state resources were used for the donation were described as “totally false, inaccurate, misleading and a distortion of facts.” The pledge has drawn criticism from Yobe residents and activists due to local education and healthcare funding issues, with the state reportedly spending more on honorarium and luxury vehicles than on primary healthcare. Fortune University is being constructed in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, with contributions from various political figures, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
