Niger State's Controversial Move to Reclaim University Campus

The Niger State government, under Governor Moham Umaru Bago, is embroiled in controversy over its move to reclaim the Bosso campus of the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUT Minna). The dispute, which reportedly began in 2025, has drawn public attention following protests from lecturers and students.

A letter dated October 3, 2025, signed by Governor Bago, claims the campus was formerly a missionary school and is now state property. The state has given the university until December 1, 2025, to vacate the campus.

In response, the university's administration insists that the Bosso campus is legally owned by them, citing a permanent acquisition confirmed by a federal government panel between 1999 and 2003. The university's registrar, Danladi Mallam, emphasized that there is no record of a lease agreement.

The controversy has raised concerns about the future of medical students at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, who are currently unable to continue their studies due to a lack of training facilities.
