CONUA Criticizes ASUU, Supports NAMDA's Right to Strike

The Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) has strongly criticized the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for allegedly orchestrating a campaign to intimidate its members and block their access to allowances. In a statement released by CONUA's national president, Dr.

Niyi Sunmonu, the union dismissed ASUU's claims that its members were ineligible for funds as entirely false. CONUA emphasized the need for equitable treatment and called for the immediate end to delays in the implementation of agreements with the federal government.

Furthermore, CONUA expressed its support for the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA), which has announced its readiness for industrial action due to failed negotiations with the government. CONUA urged the federal government's renegotiation committee to resolve longstanding issues from the 2009 agreement with university-based unions.

The union also warned vice-chancellors across Nigeria to comply with federal directives without discrimination and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and welfare for its members.
