Cooking Gas Prices Drop in Nigeria Amid Increased Imports

Cooking gas prices in Nigeria have started to decline, providing relief to households affected by high energy costs over the past year. According to checks by Daily Trust, prices have fallen in Kano, Oyo, and Lagos states due to improved local supply and increased imports.

In Kano, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is now priced between N1,400 and N1,600 per kilogram, down from N1,700 to N1,800 per kilogram. Retail outlets in Ibadan report prices between N1,350 and N1,500 per kilogram, compared to N1,800 to N2,000 a month ago.

This price drop has encouraged consumers to return to using LPG, although some still buy smaller quantities due to financial pressures. Residents have expressed hope for further reductions, with many having previously reduced their usage or switched to alternative cooking methods.

Industry observers attribute the price decrease to a significant rise in imports and stronger domestic supply.
