Cooking Gas Prices Fall 39% Amid Supply Increase

The price of cooking gas in Nigeria has dropped by 39%, now ranging between N1,100 and N1,650 per kilogramme, following increased supply due to Federal Government interventions that raised national Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply from 11 to 22 days. Daily supply increased from 4,262 metric tonnes in May to 5,040 metric tonnes in June.

In Lagos and Ibadan, prices have decreased from a peak of about ₦2,300 per kilogramme in June. Adeleye Falade, Managing Director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), stated that sustaining this price reduction requires coordinated action from the Federal Government, regulators, and industry operators.

He met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja to discuss expanding domestic LPG supply, improving storage and distribution infrastructure, and addressing multiple taxes and levies that increase operating costs. Falade reaffirmed NLNG’s commitment to supporting the domestic LPG market and aligning with the government’s development agenda.
