FG's LPG Programme to Benefit 10 Million Homes by 2060

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the National Grassroots LPG (cooking gas) Penetration Programme, aiming to reach over 10 million homes by 2060. The initiative, implemented through the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources (Gas) and the Decade of Gas Initiative, was inaugurated in Akwa Ibom State, following its initial rollout in Bayelsa State.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, announced that the programme will target one million households annually, with a goal of five million homes by 2030. Ekpo urged collaboration among various stakeholders to ensure the programme's sustainability.

The initiative includes the distribution of 27,000 filled LPG cylinders to women in Akwa Ibom State. The Decade of Gas NGLPP Programme Lead, Ramatu Abdullahi, introduced a sustainable cylinder exchange model with refill points within one to two kilometers of communities.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, praised the programme for its potential to improve lives and create economic opportunities.
