NYSC's Pioneer DG Affirms Scheme's Continued Relevance

Colonel Ahmadu Ali, the pioneer Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), declared that the scheme is here to stay during a meeting with the current Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, in Abuja. Ali emphasized the NYSC's significant role in promoting national unity and providing opportunities for Nigerian youth to develop skills outside their comfort zones.

He praised the vision of former military leader Yakubu Gowon, who established the NYSC in 1973, and noted the program's positive impact on the Nigerian populace over the past five decades. Ali expressed pride in the NYSC, acknowledging initial doubts and protests from Nigerian graduates against its establishment, but he vowed to continue supporting its sustainability.

Brigadier General Nafiu recognized the strong foundation laid by Ali and the importance of ensuring the NYSC remains stable for another 50 years.
